I was outside and noticed a louder noise than normal coming from the heat pump. Granted it has a shroud over the top though it looks like the fan is stopped, is the fan supposed to be running when your heat pump is running? Our house is staying warm and I am not seeing the AUX heat activating.

Yes it should be running except when in defrost mode.

I guess I can check again at some other point to see if it is running. It was making some osculating noise.

It is a Maytag Bravo, but has a couple more options also some pro reviews really liked it.

It will sound different in defrost mode, as you are just hearing the compressor running.
