In the process of installing a new light and have a question about the wiring. There is an extra set of wires coming into the ceiling box with the neutral wire tied to the existing light circuit and the black wire capped off. Any ideas on what this is being used for.
Found that that neutral wires were spliced with electrical tape. Removed the electrical tape and took the extra neutral out and the lights in another room no longer work.

It was not snow extra neutral . It continues out to other parts of the house. Put the splice back the way it was and cap with a wire nut.

The black might be a constant hot for a fsn motor.
