My local code list 3/8 or 1/2 inch OSB on 16" OC studs for exterior walls. I am ready to hang 7/16" OSB thinking it falls in-between the sizes listed somewhat. Before I put nail to OSB, would 7/16" work? I am in Virginia, my county goes by state code. Thanks for any advice.

Likely not gong to find exact "1/2", 7/16 is close enough and used all the time when 1/2 is called for.
No way would I use 3/8!.

Thanks! I did look for 1/2", and like you said, hard to find. Was thinking of beefing up to 19/32" but couldn't beat the price on 7/16".

7/16 is the standard for most regions, i often use 15/ 32 soley for the reason that its the thickness required on the roof here we just buy one thickness so there is no mixing up sheets. mind you depending on teh budget for the project we can sometimes up sell to actual plywood

I think you will find those 7/16" OSB panels have something on them that say something about being equal to 1/2".

Just be sure to leave the required gap between them, says right on each sheet. They may bubble off the wall, siding and all, later- otherwise.
