Hi, I live in a townhouse where my garage is attatched to the side of the house and I was wondering how I tell if the wall betewen my kitchen and the garage is conidered a bearing wall. I want to open the kitchen up into the garage to make the kitchen larger

The ceiling joists run parallel to the wall I would like to remove.

Thanks!!

More to it than just load bearing or not - that's likey a fire rated wall. Also garage conversions require special considerations. And if a multi-family building, more considerations for any major structural changes.

If you provided a photograph or two, it may be able to provide some more guesses. But it must be realized that discerning load paths and the need for fire rated assemblies is difficult with out proper as built plans or a site visit. Although it may seem it, I am not trying to be churlish, merely honest

I suggest you get a permit for any structural change to a duplex your insurance carrier will require it........
