I'm replacing a kitchen fluorescent light with a LED panel. Both are 1ft x 4ft. The box is in the center of the light. The connection for the old light is in the center of the old light but the connection for the new light is near the end. I can't move the light because I'd have to paint. What it the correct way to extend the wires? Should I use wire nuts in the box and put a cover on it? Can I lay the wires on top of the new light? Do I need to use Romex or can I just use separate wires?

Can you post a picture of the back of the fixture? Was there a box above the fluorescent?
