I am going to raise the wall in my basement bathroom and have already tore out the dropped ceiling. How should I best frame it for drywall. Current drywall is sticking up past top plate.

For the wall going in the same direction as the joist you pit blocks in the joist to nail the plate too.

How much does that pipe interfere.?

I'm going to build out a soffits there. Heres another pic of around shower. I'm guessing I can just attach stud to top plate that's there then run up to stud like you drew. I also want to drywall ceiling. Should it be fired out first?
