exposed side of kitchen island

2308 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  water lily
I am installing a kitchen island. The exposed part will be visible from the entry way. It will also serve as an eating area.

The wood color/stain is cherry. The walls and ceiling are all covered in pine groove 7" boards which have yellowed or aged. I will also be putting down a wood floor perhaps a chocolate color.

Question is how to treat the exposed side? Continue with the pine boards, match the cherry or go with a whole new color?

Ideas please for this cottage.

I would recommend you finish the backside of the island in the same species and color as the cabinets that make up the island. The manufacturer of your cabinets should be able to provide you with some 1/4" plywood stained to match your cabinets. You can put that up against the back of the cabinets (ie the side of the island that will face out to the other room).
