Hello,

I just moved in into an old apartment in NYC. On Saturday I plugged my toaster just like i have done for 5 years and it caught on fire! I thought "must be the toaster was old, crumbs, etc". This morning I plugged my hand blender and the second i hit the on button there was a spark on the outlet and the blender was no more ... RIP.
The electrician is now telling me there is nothing wrong with the outlet. That he plugged in my vacuum (YOU DID WHAT? :vs_mad: I am at the office while he is in the apt with the super) and it worked so it must be my blender. Doesn't take a genius to think "one is odd, two is too much of a coincidence":vs_worry:.
Why is this guy not finding anything wrong when it clearly is faulty and in fact, dangerous?
Suggestions please!

Go buy a new toaster from Wal-Mart for $6, bring it home, plug it in, let it catch fire, and call the fire dept. or pull the fire alarm.
That will get their attention.
It's a bad neutral.
