I have a square top roof vent that I want to remove and replace with a bathroom exhaust fan roof vent. The hole that is currently their is about 6" and the exhaust fan vent is for a 4" round duct. The hole will obviously be large enough for the pipe to fit through but is it too large of a hole?

How big is the replacement vent? I assume the 4 inch duct is going to fit in a fashion as to be sealed and force open a damper.

Nope, a roof vent for a 4" pipe will work fine.

Is that roof vent redundant so you don't need it to ensure your roof is properly ventilated? The 6" hole won't be a problem the flange from the square root vent will cover that up..
