Have a neighbor that uses his original, detached 15x18' garage as a man cave with wood burning stove. He has attached an 25x30 garage to the original one and they are essentially connected via a 36" doorway. Right by this door is a workbench inside the new structure.

He tries not to let people smoke in the man cave portion, so everyone hangs out by the workbench and smokes. Being as I'm allergic to the cigarette smoke, he doesn't care for it either, I've offered to buy and help him install a bathroom exhaust fan over the work bench.

My question is should a cheapy do the job? Any suggestions? Just trying to help lift the smoke up and clear some of the smell. We aren't looking for miracles or anything and don't want to have so much suction all the heat from man cave goes out.

My wife allows me to smoke in the house so long as I do it under the exhaust hood in the kitchen. It works fine and I have no objection to that... I may be a smoker but I don't want my house smelling like it. For it to work however I need to be right under the hood. In other words if you have a group of people you will need a fairly large hood to make it work, or you will need an extremely powerful exhaust motor to change the 'drift direction' of the smoke.

Long story short... a cheaply exhaust fan won't even make a dent.

In order for it to actually work, it would need to be in the 300CFM plus range. Which would suck out the warm air fairly quick.

A combination of using a small exhaust fan(75 to 100CFM) and an air purifier(near the smoking area) should work okay.
