Hi All,

While looking at my newly installed panel, I noticed that my dryer line (10-3, 30A) has slices on the conductor insulation, both on the black and red. I'm guessing this is because the electrician used a box cutter to strip the sheathing and hit the conductor lines.

Am I allowed, by code, to electrical tape the small sections on each wire inside the panel? We are on the 2008 NEC.

Yes. And it would be a good idea. I would contact your electrician and ask him to come back and do it at no charge. If its new wire you know he did it. If its old wire he should have fixed it.
Shrink tube is the best way to repair this. But you will have to remove the wires from their terminals to do it.

Thanks JV. Yes this was a whole new run. It was a 3 wire aluminum wire before, now its a 4 wire 10-3 copper.

I can fix this myself, I'm not worried about him coming back.

Yes, you can tape the conductors. Electrical tape is 600V rated.
