I am looking to convert this setup to be able to install my own fixture (it's above my bar). I am not sure on what I need to do. I can provide more info as needed.

I cannot tell what I am even looking at. Can you downsize the pics? and maybe back up and take a pic we can see what we are looking at?

It looks like there is some type of fixture box with greenfield entering and exiting. The two bronze sockets are somehow connected to the fixture box.
If you take another picture, turn down your resolution and turn off the flash.

Like I said it's really hard to get into the space with the camera, but the light bulb sockets are directly attached to round "boxes".

well, I don't see anything legal about the installation you have. It's about the most improper install I have seen in awhile.

So, what would you like to do? What kind of fixture do you want to install?

I was thinking the same thing. Id like to put some small high hats in that area.

Ok, what is the ceiling made of? I see what looks like a drywall ceiling but it it looks like it might not be screwed directly to the joists. Is the opening I see in the pics going to remain?

Yes, the opening will remain, depending on what lights I do. Believe it or not, that section of the ceiling is wood.

OK, need some quick help guys. Its tough to tell from the pics, but the spot is tight (less the 7" wide). The light bulb sockets are plugged directly into a round "eletrical box". How do I get the sockts out?

Does the cable go into and out of the round box?
The best thing I see to do is remove the box from the joist and let hang to see how everything is mounted.

Yeah its connected both in and out. I was afraid Id have to do that because the area is so tight to get into.
