Hi. I have an older model (circa 70's or 80's) Whirlpool electric range that came with my house. Today while cooking eggs, the heating element turned to Hi all of the sudden, without me touching or moving the temp. knob. I removed the pan, turned the knob to Low and it stayed on Hi (full red/heat). I was able to turned it off.
Has anyone had this happened or knows how to fix it?
I'm thinking it may be the temp switch failing and not the element itself?
TIA

I'm not sure but suspect you are right. As far as I know, the older element controls were rheostats (variable resistor) and is has probably shorted out.
