My hot water heater keeps tripping the reset button. What is making it do that? Do i have to replace the thermostat or heating element?

Don't know your comfort level around elec. but it sounds like it could be one of the elements. If your comfortable do so shut the poet off unhook the wires from the top element turn the power back on and see if it still trips. If it does unhook the bottom element. If it's the element this will tell you whice one. But wait before you do anything there are people on here who may have a lot better idea.
