I'm remodeling a bathroom in our house. The old dwv pipe is black Shed. 40. Can the new white pipe be used in connection with this? Are they compatible to be glued together? Seems to me they'd be the same but I don't want to find out the hard way either.

Thanks,

Pat

No hub

If it were me, I would NOT use the transition glue because the PVC (white) and ABS (black) pipes have different expansion and contraction rates, which is likely to cause the connection to crack over time. Also it may or may not be legal to use this product. Not all jurisdictions allow it, however some do.

If I had to connect the two different types of pipe, I would suggest a no hub connection.

Also these no-hub connectors are supposed to be torqued to an exact specification. They sell a special wrench just for these connectors. You dont want to over or under tighten these as this may cause it to fail (leak!)

You can get these at any hardware or plumbing supply store. Big Box stores have them as well.
