I'm in the process of remodeling our small half bath due to a rotten subfloor. When I pulled the existing vanity out, I noticed a false bottom with a register vent screwed to the kickplate. The 5 inch round ductwork stops flush with my subfloor. I was going to just install a boot. My floor joists are 16 in. on center, and there is one right next to the round duct work. There are also two joists sistered together on the other side of the duct, leaving me only 8 inches between the joists. I can't reroute the ducts because my furnace is in the way, and I don't want to use flexible duct work because then if I ever finish my basement it will cause problems. I also don't want to put the vent in the wall because I'm planning on using travertine on the walls and don't want to cause an eyesore. Does anyone have any suggestions/fixes?
