We are slowly removing all the faux wood paneling from our house (built in the 40s, remodeled in the 70s). We've done three rooms with varying success. We replaced drywall in two rooms, and were able insulate and update electrical - however, this was time consuming and more expensive than just repairing it. The wood paneling is glued it sparingly, so repairing it just requires rolling mud on and has been simpler and cheaper. We're about to do a 400 sq ft room, is it worth replacing so that we can update electrical and add insulation or no?

Will either choice impact resell value of the home?

Replacing the dry wall/insulation/electrical will give you a nicer place to live and certainly will add some to the resale of the home----You have to do what you can afford.

Just the cost savings in heating a cooling would be worth the extra work and money.
I know if I was in the market for another home and had to choose between a home with up dated wiring and inslation or one still needing to be done I'd pick the updated one everytime. Mainly becuse I have an idea on just how much work time and money it would take.

What about blowing in insulation from the attic into the walls? How simple is that? We're still unsure since the drywall has been in good condition under the wood paneling. The electrical outlets were updated in the 70s but are not the 3-prong. How much of a difference is that to a buyer? Thank you for your perspectives on the resale value.

I personal have never seen a way to shoot it in from the attic.
More often it's done from the outside after removing the siding or boring holes if it's wood siding.
From what I have witnessed, doing it that way will leave voids, and it always settles.
