Thanks in advance.
We are adding a new entry room to our house remodel and this room is going to be in part of the garage .. (the new room will share a NEW common wall with the garage )

With that in mind, I understand 5/8 is the code for fire .. what I do not know if that is on both sides of the common wall ..

Can I sheet the garage side with 5/8 and the interior side with 1/2?

80% of this wall in question is shear with 1/2 ply already on it.

The only real reason I ask, to be honest, is the new lightweight 1/2 can be managed by one person (me) when installing, 5/8 is really a 2 person job.

Thanks

You need to check your local codes. Everyone's is different. Get on the phone and call the code office in your area, or check the IRC codes on the city website.

Check on where you live as codes vary. But I think most on a shared wall with the garage is double 5/8 This is not only for fire but fumes. Yes you can use 1/2" inside.
