I assume 20yrs of steam may be the cause. Or its old damage from a previous dishwasher. I also found a mouse skull under the dishwasher, so i know where the chewed up bottom came from.

I did my last wash with the old dishwasher before I pulled it out, and everything is dry back there. No leaks from the pipes and this is an interior half wall with a bar top / pass thru on it. Other side of the wall is wood paneling on studs. Oak cabinets make up the left and right sides. Would there be any problem with replacing the old drywall with 1/2" plywood? I ask because I already have plywood.

Yeah, me either. That's why I asked. Just in case there was a reason I didn't know about. I can't find anything in the manual for the new DW other than minimum clearances. Just dont want to do it, there have to tear it all back out ya know.
