We’re starting to renovate a casita that’s part of our property. The previous owners had already done some repairs themselves. They placed drywall over stucco and there’s a wall that’s unfinished but I noticed that there’s no insulation in between the stucco and wall. I just wanted to know if it was necessary to add it between or if it’ll be fine the way it is

Can you post a picture?
Drywall over stucco doesn't make sense to me.
Drywall is internal.
Stucco is external.
Or at least that's my understanding of the two.
I added some photos of the inside and outside of the wall. This is what the old owners left

I’m based in New Mexico!
Do you intend to add Hvac, if no insulation would not do much. If you are adding Hvac, insulation might be worth the effort.
That wall is concrete block not stucco.
This outlet if live should not be buried in a wall, so check that for power.

As a fellow Land of enchantment resident there is a great difference between northern and southern NM. It would be preferable to always have insulation in the walls of any structure. Is it necessary in southern NM with a occasionally used living space, probably not. In Taos or Chama most definitely you need it.
More important would be that insulation is above the ceiling no matter where you live as that is the area where you will lose your heat in a cold climate or gain the most in a hot climate. Hope that helps.
And as stated above don’t bury live electric behind the drywall. Make sure that outlet is dead.
