I need to get a new dryer aluminum duct but I'm not sure what size to get or what I am doing. I got a 6" duct but its too big (for the wall) and I got a 4" duct (for the wall) but its too small but it also appears to be roughly 4" to attach to the wall. Do I need to get an attachment or am I just going about this all wrong?

Any dryer vent I've ever seen was 4".
Had to know what's wrong without a picture.

As Joe said, it's 4", but, starting from the dryer, each subsequent straight piece of elbow needs to end with a crimped end, so that it slips into the next one. You don't use couplers; just slip one end into the next, and seal the joints with foil tape, not regular duct tape, and no screws.

dryer vents are 4" pipe... dryer exhaust vents going thru wall to outside are 4"
also..
