I recently used some pointed (think arrow tip) carbide bits to drill 3/16. I started with a smaller one to score the surface. Slow speed using an 18v drill.
Back when I occasionally had to drill in walls I used some diamond bits shaped the same.
Always used slow speed and no hammer.
