Wasn't sure which forum to put this in...

Refinishing a dresser. Noticed that a prior owner put some kind of hard felt(?) which meets the floor. It's the same consistency as pegboard without the holes.

As you can see, doesn't look good. My daughter is putting this on a hardwood floor. What should be on here instead? The part that meets the floor is an "L" shaped piece, maybe about 4" long on both sides of the L and 1 1/4" wide.

Just remove it. You really don’t need anything on the bottom, unless
she’s going to move it around:wink2: It will just sit on the floor like all
furniture does.

I have hardwood floors as well...all furniture sitting on hardwood floors
won’t damage it unless you move heavy furniture around.

As a matter of fact, I have a rolling desk chair and it hasn’t damaged
the hardwood.

I was just worried since she has hardwood floors.

You can only potentially get scratches if there is movement. Most furniture doesn't get moved a lot - it just sits there. It is possible the previous owner used that pad to compensate for an uneven floor (or a twisted dresser) particularly if you only find it on one or two feet. If you are still concerned, there are all sort of furniture pads out there, including smaller felt buttons. Since it is older and previous loved, I would check the bottom of the feet to make sure they are smooth and nothing is protruding that could leave a mark.
