I had my inground pool renovated and new concrete and pavers put in. The way the contractor graded it it runs down a small walkway and collects on the front lawn. A small area maybe 5'x5'. And then when that gets saturated it backs up onto the walkway. I tried to fix it by digging a 2 foot deep hole and filling it with 3/4 bluestone. That worked for awhile but now it's a muddy mess. In the winter the water freezes and I can't open the gate. And in the summer it's a muddy area.

What is the best solution to fix this problem.

An NDS catch basin piped to daylight somewhere. If no slope anywhere in yard, then regrade that 5x5 spot to slope towards another area farther away where you can keep a little detention area the water can sit and not cause problems.

Ayuh,..... You need to slightly lower, the low side of the puddle, so it continues to flow to the street,......

The area to the street is about 50 feet. The side on the driveway has bricks running along the driveway. So you can't run it down the driveway. How about some sort of drywell at the end of the walkway in the area that floods.

Ayuh,..... The trouble with a drywell, it only works til it fills up,.......

40 gallons, Ain't much water,......
'ell, 140 gallons ain't much water durin' a tarantula down-pour,.....

So what is the grade that last 50',..??..??
Does it still drop,..??
If so, ya just gotta remove the dam, for however far it's blockin' the flow,......

A 4' level, 'n 8' or 12' 2x4 can tell you alot,.....
Yer lookin' for drop, but dead level drains to where ever there's a rise,.....

Didn't you already try that?

If your soil doesn't percolate fast enough, you get heavy rains, and have freezing winters, drywells are useless.

Filling a 2 foot hole with blue stone isn't a dry well.

The grade is pretty flat. For the flow to come out of the gate and flow down to the street the area in front of the gate would be higher than the pavers and then it would puddle up there.

I didn't have the problem until the yard was redone. It was graded to flow to different areas of the yard.

So, yer willin' to accept a pizz poor job, rather than insist it's done Properly,..??

This is near impossible to help, without pictures,......

Another alternative might be to lower the lawn,.....

What the hell are you talking about, a piss poor job. Insist on having it done properly, the jobs been done for 5 years now. The guy did a great job. How the hell am I supposed to know as the guy is putting down pavers and concrete how it will drain. Do me a favor, if you don't help with a solution please don't answer.

Dig a dry well where the water collects now (if not already dug). Remove any rocks or gravel filling the middle of it and put a sump pump in it.

Have the sump pump discharge pipe go to a point on the path the water used to flow away on ten years ago (on or alongside the driveway?) and where the water can begin flowing away now.
