Hi, first post here. I'm a new homeowner with a new construction home and bare yard, designing my own landscape. I plan to help keep water away from the foundation with underground pipes and pop up emitters (the builder already did a couple by the front porch when pouring the concrete).

My question is is it better to have the drain pop up into the grass or into a flower/planting bed? Pros and cons of each? TIA

@Cougar7, welcome!

Please tell us where you are. That's vitally important for a question like yours.

In general I concur with @stick\shift and @3onthetree, but there's a lot of details that matter, in particular, how much rain you normally get.

Also, maybe show us a picture? We can give ideas about how and what to plant when the time comes.

I'm in California now, but from Ohio, where I gardened for a long time.

Oh yeah, I'll update my profile to include my location. I'm in Utah, in a suburb of the Salt Lake/Provo area. It's very dry, not much rain.

Yes, the drains are from gutters.

Here's a picture of the front of the house a couple weeks before we closed, sorry it doesn't have a good view of some of the drains (I'd take a picture now, but it has been trenched so it wouldn't give a good view anyway). As you can see, the gutter drains from the porch have already been buried, just wondering what to do with the other ones (like the one on the left that you can barely see). I'll take suggestions for what to plant, but I plan to primarily rely on local nurseries/gardeners to get local advice (looking for water conservation and ease of maintenance, mainly to keep costs lower).
