Trying to install motion flood lights but the downspout is in the way. I'm not sure if it would be better to move the gang box or buy some kind of gutter extensions which would a lot simpler.

It only needs to move 2-3 inches down to clear the motion sensor but even then it may be blocked.

Why only drop it 2-3 inches. I’d drop it 6-12 inches to have more clearance if I was going that route.

Moving the fixture box will leave a hole to patch. I’d put in a new box and extend wires from the old. Then install a blank cover on the old.

Unless there is some other complication you haven’t mentioned, it looks like a 50/50 choice., unless you are more comfortable working with one vs the other.

Does not really matter to me trouble is on the eaves there is nothing to mount a new gang box to on the Soffit. There are only 2x4 at the ends of the garage which is where that gutter comes down.

all our lights are installed on the wall rather than the soffit. I wonder if they moved it onto there for pendant style lights?

In any event, they do sell floods with detectors you can put elsewhere. Some of those articulated ones you can take off the sensor and get a little more distance with - can't tell from the pic if yours is or not.
