i know in the back of my head this is not to code but i thought i would ask just in case. i have a 1/2" pancake box attached to the outside of the house. i built these little blocks so that the light fixture has a nice extended look when the shingles go up around it. the pancake box needs to be 1/8" min from the front face and it cannot be this far back correct? can i add material between the house and pancake box (and not the surround) to bring it closer to the front face?

You can remove the box and put spacers behind, or get a round box extension for the front.
