I am having problems with my doorbell (not a personal problem ;) ). The old doorbell broke a few years ago so I put up a new one. The problem is, it will only do a partial ring when somebody pushes and releases the switch (it will ding, but not dong). Actually, it will only give a partial chirp. If they hold the switch in, it will do the full ding-dong... but nobody seems to ever do that. I don't recall having this problem with the bell that broke.

I tried putting a new switch in to see if that made a difference... but it was the same. I thought I saw a switch a few years ago that had some sort of electronics in it. I am wondering if there is such a switch that will keep the circuit until the full cycle is done. Is there such a thing? I looked at different bells, but they all seem pretty much the same.

Is there any way I can get a ding-dong?

When you changed the chime mechanism, did you check that the old transformer matched the new chime?
