I am wanting to replace my current door threshold, and need some advice on some things. Currently it is wood, and doesn't really offer much weather protection from a strong wind. It has vinyl up against it right now, but I will be changing that to a laminate wood floor eventually, so it will be just a little higher then it currently is. I would like to replace it with something like this, but not sure if it will work for what I am wanting to do and will change it to.

I also would be interested in painting it, but the door rubs on it near the hinges, and afraid if I sand it down to much, it will just create a bigger space for wind to blow through. My first choice would be to go ahead and put a new one in. Here are some pictures to show what it is currently like.
