What I was thinking is to shoot some wood screws or hit with the finish nail gun to secure. Followed up with wood epoxy, sand, prime and paint.

What does everyone think?

Remove the striker plate, shoot some Tite Bond II is the break, use wood clamps to pull it back together. The glue will be stronger then the wood is now.
