I had a pre-hung external door installed on the 21st. about 1 week later I noticed cracking around the lock area.

Is this normal? what is the cause of this typically?
I have a one year warranty on the door install, and a longer one on the door itself (I think 15 years). so I will be calling the installation company I just want to have an idea of what caused this before talking to him.

Note all the install was done by them, including the hardware (handle and deadbolt). but the hardware was provided by me (via Canadiantire).

Thanks

Howie!

Thanks everybody, I guess it was likely an issue with the install, and not the door.

sdsester: I will be insisting the honor their warranty.
joed: Their are no other visible signs of an attempt at forced entry.

Brinks is hardly a high security hardware by any means.

The damage was done when they used a chisel to cut the vertical cuts to mortise the edge of the door. I've seen it hundreds of times and can almost assure you that the damage is only as deep as the mortise and does not compromise your security of your metal door at all.

It is a poor installation job though.

Come on guys, pencil marks on the side, rough edge on the sides. The recess was just not wide enough and someone used a chisle to widen it and just taped a little to hard and split it.
There's cracks on three sides not just one side.
No one's mortised a lock set by hand and not seen this before?

I just looked at the one I did about a year ago and guess what? Same type of thing there also. I do remember 'tapping' with rubber hammer to make it fit........

Mine was tight for a month or so then perfect. Guess I should go back and fill in the areas where the chisel was not perfect? Nope...
