I mean, in general, does new paint look significantly better than old? I just finished painting a bathroom after doing a drywall patch after adding a fan and switch. I still have a second bathroom with the same old paint. The new color is pretty close to the old color. The old was semi-gloss. The new is pearl. The new bathroom looks so much better than the other (second) bathroom that I am tempted to paint the other one too. I can't put my finger on why the recently painted room looks better. Maybe its the shade of color. Maybe the old paint has lost its sheen. Maybe its my imagination.

Sps, not meaning to sound like a wisea$$, but if new paint didn't look better than old they wouldn't sell much paint. Certainly, paint loses attractiveness over the years. Colors fade, sheens lose luster, the surface gets dingy from dirt and soap scum, etc. In general, it's not your imagination.

And paint quality makes a huge difference. BM Aura is hugely better than Dutch boy..
It may very well be that the lower sheen makes the wall look better. It's very well known that high sheen magnifies flaws in the imperfect wall finish, and flat paint hides flaws, making the wall look smoother, flatter, and more consistent in color. Pearl obviously lies somewhere in between and is an improvement over semi gloss in that regard.
