Hello,

I've been looking for awnings for my brick house. I really like copper, but they are very expensive. Every window on the house is a different size. My question(s):

If I weld a frame together as shown in the attachment, will it be a huge job to attach standing seam copper panels to the frame?

I appreciate any advice given.

Thanks,
Russell

You need some 'meat' to attach to.

Based on your drawings (starting from the left) openings 3, 4, 6 and 7 should have solid headers, so plenty of "meat" to attach to.

Openings 1, 2, and 5 are 'probably' not solid headers so you would need to find the studs to attach to.

The frame itself, i think it would need cross frame from rear legs to front. Think about how metal roof can be assembled on separate frame and added later. How metal roof can be easily screwed to the metal frame. Can you weld aluminum?

Thanks for the replies.

kwikfishron, the house is brick. I thought i might install some sort of anchor and screw the frames to the brick. I'm thinking the frames shouldn't weigh all that much.

carpdad, I added two more legs to the frame. The frame shown is 5' wide, but there are a couple which are nearly 8' wide. I will add another leg to the longer frames. I don't have a welder - yet. I've been looking at some. I thought I'd use 1/4" x 1" metal for the frames, which would likely require a 220V machine.

I called a local metal roofing supply shop. They told me they would form up the copper panels and cut them to length.

I looked at awnings online and I couldn't find any the size I want. And they are soooo expensive.
