I'm installing 5 pendant lights in a row between 2 joists. It's going over the dining table. The cords that the kits come with probably aren't rated to be run like romex is.

So does that mean I have to put 5 ceiling boxes in and run romex 6 inches to the next box and so on tis the last box?

I'm pretty sure this is the way, but I'm hoping there is a better/easier but still safe way to do it that someone may know about.

Thanks

Another possibility, though not as desirable, is to install a track and use adapters to hang the pendants from.

Here is one type, there are others: http://www.cooperindustries.com/con...ck_lighting!track_systems!single_circuit.html

You could check out let's canopies or other systems.

I love lbl but they aren't cheap. Much higher quality than box stores.
Those look pretty cool! Do you or anyone else know if I can make fixtures like this? Sorry not sure how to word it, but like can I make a wooden box for all those pendant lights mount that to the ceiling and make my connections in that box. I'll have a ceiling box to let the romex come in, but basically the decorative box serves as a junction box too. Not sure if wire is allowed to be exposed to the drywall or wood like that. Maybe it has to be plastic or metal.

Anyone know?

You mean like this:

No idea if it's code or not.

A wooden junction box will not meet code but you could put a real jb in the wood box. The jb has to remain accessible.
