I recently bought a 1959 brick home that has 2 garage door openings that have never had doors. Headers are solid, bricks are solid, no mortar issues. The openings are exactly 9-ft wide each, so jambing them will just make them narrower. Can I just put the seals on the inner edges of my 2xs for door mounting?

Regular roll up doors ride on tracks and the tracks need to be anchored. As long as the 2x4s are firmly part of the framing, yes. The doors don't need more framing and the weather seals will do. It's the time to look at the frames, though. In nj and most of the garage jambs are 2x10 and the bottoms are all rotten. If you can change the 2x4 to pt lumbers, any sill plate to pt, will help with no repairs later. For track hardware, I think at least double 2x.
