DIY home renovation project underway!

Hello all, great forum here. I've been reading up for awhile and figured I'd make my first post.

After years and years (and years, and...) of planning, we're finally underway on our complete home renovation project. We're taking a boring old rambler we've lived in for nearly 10 years now and converting it to a new and refreshed Arts & Crafts style home.

We've done some demolition and now have the footings poured for two new additions; 500sq.ft. of interior space and a 8'x30' covered front porch. This weekend, if the weather holds I'll be starting the concrete block foundation.

Wish us luck! I'm sure I'll have my fair share of questions to ask, and will learn a lot with the help of this forum.

I'm going to try to keep a blog of our renovation, though I am already behind. :). I'll try to keep it up-to-date for anyone interested, and for my own historical purposes once this is long over with.

How dare you!

Tom,

As the new owner of a 1960s rambler I say: How dare you!

I kid - I set out thinking we would buy a Craftsman home but location decided otherwise. While personally interested in restoring our home to a somewhat modern version of its original glory (i.e., stripping away faux Victorian add-ons), that did not stop me from bookmarking your blog.

... just in case I change my mind?

Please continue posting and updating your progress, hopefully with many conceptual sketches / before and after pics.

Well, I think I'm doing good at updating the blog so far, though I am two work days behind now. I think I'm over 1/2 way finished with the concrete block foundation and hoping to get it finished within the next couple of weeks. I'll update soon! Thanks for following. :)
