since "ditra" is only 1/8 in. thick,does that mean that I'm stuck using it on all room floors if I want the tile to be at the same level from room to room? probably a dumb question,huh Jaz? wonder if Schluter made it 1/8 in. for that reason,hmm...(guess I'm just naturally suspicious):whistling2:

They make a thicker version, too. Ditra-MAX or something like that. I believe that it is designed to bring tile up to the level of a hardwood floor. The downside would be needing to use a lot more thinset on top to fill the deeper waffles.

Oh yeah,what about that stuff you're supposed to put around the perimeter of your "ditra"? that must be part of their conspiracy too! (they talk about it in their video)

You're referring to "Dilex". It's a great product which would take care of any cracking in the corners, but many of us don't like its looks, and it's not redly available. Most of us just skip mentioning it. It would add too much $$$. Like many things; people want it, but don't want to pay the price.

so, you can lay down your "ditra" without this "extra"? I'm trying to relate this to "concrete backer board", I don't recall having to put ANYTHING around THAT, I just left a gap at the wall then I stuck on the "bull-nose".

Dilex can be a nightmare to be quite honest. Maybe they build all their walls perfectly square in Germany, but around here I don't think there is such a thing as a square wall. If you don't have near perfect corners, Dilex just doesn't work out too well. The flat Dilex for floor joints works great though.
