Dishwasher draining a lot of water through the sink drain by the faucet.
Is this normal? If not, what do I need to do to fix it?

Do you mean it's backing up in the sink?
If that's it then clean out the trap under the sink.
Run a snake down the drain with the trap and tail piece off.

Sorry. I'm trying to remember the fitting that is mounted on the porcelain sink that the dishwasher drains to. But isn't there a also a primary drain that is tied into the sink drain?

Sorry. I'm trying to remember the name of the fitting that is mounted to the porcelain sink above. Looks like a vent or overflow for the dishwasher. That's where a lot of water is pouring out of. Isn't there a also primary drain under the sink that the dishwasher is tied into? I just don't remember seeing that much water pouring out of the upper drain before. Thanks for responding

Without a picture of what you have we would have to guess how yours is plumbed.

still kind of confused here, but it sounds like your dishwasher is tied into an airgap above sink? and it is leaking here? You need to be a little more specific with what your problem is.

Are you sure the cap is not loose and screwed on tightly?

The fitting mounted on the sink is most likely an air gap. Its purpose is to prevent dirty water from siphoning back into the dishwasher. If it is pouring out water, you almost certainly have a clog somewhere.

Thanks all for the input but that wasn't the problem. Like the Einstein that I am, I failed to remove the plug for the dishwasher drain inside the garbage disposal that I replaced a few months ago. (Sorry I forgot to mention that).
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to catch a plane to Stockholm where I'm receiving the Nobel prize for quantum physics.

Glad you got it figured out! Geez, a few months of that? You must have been washing by hand. Or using paper plates, lol.
