Before trying anything major, since It sounds like you haven't had problems in the past. Try taking everything out of the dishwasher and see if it works. Back when I was doing home maintenance I would get a call a couple times a year about a dishwasher that "didn't work" and would find that there was something getting in the way of the door that was not obvious at first.
May not be the problem. But it's worth a try. Nine years is a pretty good run for a dishwasher.
