Dishwasher won't start

I have a Maytag Jetclean dishwasher that is nine years old. It has worked fine, but today it won't turn on. None of the lights on the front panel activate. I checked my circuit breakers and none are tripped. The Control Lock feature doesn't appear to be activated because the Lock light isn't lit. The door seems to be completely closed.

I'm not sure what's going on here. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I haven't tried the suggestion to empty it out yet, but I did notice something unusual, that I will try to explain. I opened the door and looked in the area between the bottom of the counter and the top of the dishwasher. On each side of the top of the dishwasher there is a thin, flat metal bracket that is connected to the bottom of the counter with a screw. Actually, there is only a screw on one of these brackets. On the other bracket, the screw is missing and the bracket was bent down, to the point that it has broken off a small piece of plastic on the dishwasher door. This broken plastic apparently occurred from closing the door into the bent down bracket. I was able to use needle nose pliers and bend up the bracket so the door would close underneath it, although the bracket won't stay that way. I have to use a thin screwdriver to hold the bracket up enough out of the way to get the door to close underneath it. The underneath part of the counter where the screw would have gone has a half of a hole there on the edge of where the counter stops. What I also don't understand is the side of the top of the dishwasher where the bracket is fine has all kinds of clearance between the top of the dishwasher and the underneath of the counter, where even if the screw had come out on that side, it wouldn't have mattered, yet the problem side has no clearance. I hope that made sense as it is hard to explain.

Of course, even with holding the deformed bracket up out of the way while closing the door, the darn dishwasher still doesn't turn on.
