Broke the swivel poing that allows the arm and spring to pull the door up. ( The swivel point is attached to the frame) Unfortunatly the piece is factory made and pressed. I am told you have to replace the whole staircase. There has to be an easier way. Need help finding a solution.

I doubt there is much of a market for replacement attic stair components, as there would be for something like garage doors. If you could find the brand I would try to contact the manufacturer directly, or, if not, find a model that matches yours in a lumberyard, jot down the manufacturer's name, and contact them. (You might have to replace both sides.)
