My parents had thier submersible pump replace and now water is dirty. (They are dragging their feet to have it looked at). So now I am going over every month to replace water filter. At first water pressure would get low which makes sense but now water just gets dirty after filter. Before I replace filter housing is there something I am missing? It's a standard 2.5x10 filter older unit no bi pass. Trying to get a game plan before going back over.
Thanks

There are only four possibilities that I can think of:
- The filter cartridge was incorrectly installed so that water is bypassing it;
- The sediment in the water is small enough to not be captured by the filter;
- The filter cartridge is defective allowing water to essentially bypass the filter, through the filter;
- The sediment in the water downstream of the filter is being generated downstream of the filter (like in a hot water heater).

I installed the American Plumber and the paper filter that came with it blew a hole in the paper in a short while so I switched to the string and have used those for years. I found a filter with a hole was of little value.

Before changing the filter consider filling a glass and allow to set for awhile to check for sediment.

Also you might pump about a hundred gallon through a hose outside to clear any debris that was caused from disturbing the well and a sanitize procedure is always advisable after replacing a pump. Your county health dept. will have the amounts of bleach required to do that.
