From my current experience, dimmable fluorescent bulbs are a scam. I replaced 2 regular 65w recessed light bulbs in the kitchen - figuring I'd do a couple at a time since the bulbs are a little pricey. When I dim the circuit, the normal bulbs will still dim all the way down, but the new fluorescent bulbs go from bright, to a little less bright. They don't really "dim." Is it because I have intermixed incandescent and fluorescent bulbs on the same switch, or do they just suck for dimming?

are these CFLs or tubes? And I am assuming that you are using a wall dimmer rated for the purpose?

I don't think all CFLs are dimmable.

They are the dimmable CFLs made for recessed fixtures. Not all CFLs are dimmable, but these are the ones that are supposed to be, as indicated on the package. It is a standard wall dimmer switch.

Unscrew the incandescent lamps and see if the CFLs function as they are supposed to.

I've got 3 of the dimmable CFL R30 equivalents. They don't dim all the way down at best maybe 1/2 brightness that's it.

So far 2 years though and no problems. Standard dimmer.

What brand name screw in dimmable CFL you have ??

somecase if you change the namebrand that useally do the trick.

Most the dimmable screw in CFL I know can work with standard dimmer however follow the manufacter instruction very carefull if they stated which type of dimmer swtich to use the standard dimmer or electronique dimmer or others as need to.

We have simuair situation on European side as well some do work and some are not worth a crap.

And make sure you double check with recessed cans luminaires some will not work very well in there due some are IC cans it can get very warm and wreck the CFL controller.
