Can anyone recommend some good digital WiFi thermostats? I dont have interest in the NEST. I would want them to be automated so it could be controlled by a phone or IPAD. I have three zones, two on the first floor and 1 on the second floor. My AC is controlled for the entire house on the 2nd floor.

I have been looking at this one

I have not been able to find any other color digital thermostats. As corny as it may sound I want something that looks cool. Any recessed ones in the wall anyone is aware of?

thanks

If it were recessed in the wall. It would not be as accurate, as it wouldn't sense the air temp as well.

You mean automated as in you are self adjusting the temperature on the thermostat? The best way to do it is a set and forget, or remote sensors to a main unit that uses the zoned system.

Your only problem is that you are not going to find anything consumer grade for what you want to do.

The only good that a wifi capable thermostat allows, is the ability of changing the programs on the fly, depending on how hot or cold the week will be.

The only time that I connect with our wifi capable thermostat with our iPhones, is when we are on our way home during the Summer or Winter and want to bump it back to our normal setpoint of 68 in the Winter, 72 in the Summer.

Wifi does allow you to set up your schedule on the computer and personally speaking I find that a lot easier than on the thermostat itself. The whole schedule is on one screen and can be adjusted in it's entirely a lot easier.

That thermostat is good but it's main purpose is wifi and as a result, as restricted as others in terms of operating options. If you have a normal gas heating system with (or without) AC then it will work well for you. If you have a heat pump with back up heat then you may want something which offers better control (more detail).

Honeywell does offer the redesigned prestige 2 IAQ (a bit of a price jump) but it's pretty much the Cadillac of Honeywell's residential thermostats. It has a fair few color options.

I haven't seen any recessed ones but that doesn't mean they can't be accurate while recessed. Just need to use a remote sensor.
No reason to get nice looking stats if he is going to use remote sensors. can put the stats at the zone panel then, and just have the remote on the wall.

You COULD put the stat anywhere you want to with remote sensors, but that doesn't mean you have to mount the stat in an off location either. I have my stat located in the dining room but have several remote sensors around the house too.

I agree though... if you buy a nice looking stat then why would you want to bury it in the wall??

I think the recessed thermostat has a cleaner look, and modern feel inside the house. My brother used to have a nice Wifi touch screen honeywell recessed one in his old house. Honeywell doesnt make it anymore. I didnt know if there were any other options.

Obviously most of the newer models have the ability to set the times dates and temps you want when you want it.

I guess what I am trying to ask is there any other good options outside of Honeywell, and the Nest that have the modern look.

Appreciate all the feed back

dlam9946, all that I use for my furnace is the 3m-50 with the My.Cloudbeam radio.

My Cloudbeam will allow you to control the Proliphix thermostat, but a little overkill for what you want to do.

If you email Tristen de Froundeville at the email at skycentrics com/company/ He can help if you want to use the portal that they have designed, which I use and like. Really easy if you can see if they can help with a zoned solution.

I like the portal, because it is easy to change thermostat programs and also control the thermostat. Also you can control other devices that they have, that works together with their portal.
