Detached Garage Disconnect Help

2261 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Jim Port
Hello,

First time poster and wanted to extend a huge thanks for the wealth of information.

I have a detached garage 8-10 feet from the house. I brought a 20 amp circuit for outlets and 15 amp circuit for lighting to the garage from the house panel. By code I need to have a disconnect where the circuits enter the garage. I'm wondering if a 20 amp dual pole switch will suffice or do I need to install a larger 30 amp disconnect?

Thanks again for your help.

You can only take a single feeder or circuit to the outbuilding. If you need two circuits you need a feeder with a panel,or a multiwire branch circuit.
Sounds like l he needs to read the code book.
A two pole switch can be your disconnect for the MWBC . .
