I have a bit of lattice around the house crawl space to remove. Instead of pulling the nails I bought a 4-1/2" saw blade for my HF angle grinder.

I was wondering if there was some kind of gadget I can get or make on my own that will keep the cuts 7/8" or so deep. Seems like then I could just zip along.

How deep will it cut if you lay a 1x or 2x along side that the grinder could ride on

I see what you're saying. Clamp(?) a board to the lattice and run the grinder along that. That is better than what I was thinking. A 5/8" to 1/2" will be perfect depending on the angle I hold the grinder. Thx Neal!

 Didn't see your post before today. Just your description of the tool kinda scared me. As I read the thread I was pretty surprised anyone offered advice because what you wanted to do sounded dangerous. The actual picture of the tool was even worse than my imagination. If you didn't lose fingers then I'd call you lucky.

If it was me, I'd make sure the lattice was secure, keep a good grip on my circular saw as I cut it, and plan on throwing away the blade when I was done. That's just me, though; I'm much more comfortable with a circular saw than a grinder.

The grinder rotation is running the wrong direction for that blade
or any kind of saw blade. It's attempting to self feed the blade into the wood. The same scenario would be attempting to rip lumber on a table saw by pushing the piece through from the back side of the saw.

Could have been a whole lot worse! I've had these grinders kick back uncontrollably when just running a grinding disc or a wire brush. Removing the guard that covers the rear of the wheel is a pretty bad idea, no matter what wheel you're running. Saw blades are way too dangerous on there either way.

I've seen a couple painful injuries when a wire brush gets caught in a T-shirt or sweatshirt. Holding it close to their body to try and control the kick and it ends up grabbing clothes.

There is a ton of mini circular saws on the market that would help do the job much safer. They come in every price range.
