Hi - I just bought a house with a huge (maybe 30 - 40' diameter) man-made pond with a concrete bottom. It is cracked along several sides due to tree roots. Until I can figure out what to do with it long-term I need a way to drain the standing water that keeps gathering in several places after the rain. Right now there is probably about 4" standing about 8' long.

I was considering buying a sump pump (the former owners left one, but it doesn't work). But is there any better solution than that? There are two trees hanging above it that dump leaves into it all the time, so the leaves will continue to be an issue clogging the pump.

Any ideas appreciated.
