Decorative resurfacing of concrete stairs

I am looking to resurface my concrete stairs. Has anyone had the decorative overlay done on their stairs? What is the expected life span. Should I just resurface my stairs and stain them? What is approx cost of either option. It is a 5 stair stoop and I live in CT. I am trying to get an idea of what to do with covering my nasty front concrete stairs. I was considering doing it myself but I don't have any experience with this type of project.
