I am building a 12 x 16 deck between two houses. What I am reading if I understand it right on figuring joists and spans is if you use a 2 x 10 you can span 16.1 feet from ledger board to post on a footer for 40psf live load and 10psf dead load. Would it be the same if I were going from ledger board to ledger board or is that too much pull on the ledger boards.

Some species only span 13'+, read the chart included.
