I am looking at building a deck on my home.

A 16x32 deck with railing and stairs. The top of the deck will be 42 inches off of the ground.

I was considering the Trex elevations for the framing due to the ability to use a 16 foot joist.

On the Trex documentation it looks like I could do a single deck support with a ledger board 12' span and four foot overhang.

Though I think I could technically do a design like this, But I am curious if it really should have two beam supports at 6', 12' and a 2' foot cantilever/overhang.

Please let me know if a double beam is the way to go, or if a single beam would work just fine.

Just a quick follow on question regarding the ledger board installation.

What I am reading is that you install the ledger to the rim joist, but I do not see mention of removing the sheathing. I assume that the sheathing is just sandwiched in between.

When prepping the house do I cut away the sheathing or install the ledger through the sheathing to the rim joist?

You might find it with or with out sheeting covering it, if it is there you leave it there. Our houses are built with the rim joist flush with the sheeting but sometimes the sheeting covers it for structural strength.
